Quality improvement requires measurement and reporting of condition-specific indicators, patient safety measures (mortality analysis, falls, etc.), patient experience metrics, readmission reports, and service line specific reports with national and local benchmarks. This is an essential element in the journey to deliver value-based healthcare.

Value-Based Healthcare Implementation: Quality Improvement Training

This Quality Improvement Training focuses on providing a foundation of quality improvement theory, and empowers stakeholders with the skills and strategies needed to improve health care quality and operational outcomes. Training emphasizes the core principles of clinical quality improvement.

Program Details

This training teaches the following core principles of clinical quality improvement:

  • Methods for rapid-cycle improvement based on Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA)
  • Design of measurement systems by identification of appropriate measures, creation of data collection plans, and utilization of simple data collection tools
  • Methods to streamline processes and eliminate errors including Kaizen, Lean, and Six Sigma
  • Design, execution, and evaluation of rapid-cycle improvement projects based on SMART principles (Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic, Time Bound)
  • Methods for analyzing and appropriately presenting data to staff and leadership
  • Standardization of care and other work processes
  • Alignment of culture and leadership to promote the infrastructure for improvement (and change management) in the front line of clinical care

Operational Excellence – Lean In Action Training 

Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH) has been building a culture of continuous improvement for more than seven years by implementing and tailoring the Toyota Production System for its health care processes. From basic and advanced training to Hoshin Kanri and aligned staff, BSWH has achieved high-quality results. With the addition of Lean Management Systems-Building (sometimes called Daily Lean), BSWH staff are now generating more implementable ideas each month than they did in their highest years of deploying only through Lean projects.

The VBH Global will facilitate a site visit allowing organizations to receive a system big-picture view of continuous improvement, complete with in-process Hoshin Kanri, a Gemba walk, and meetings with  various staff members for discussions about their process and quality improvement journeys.
