The Quality Journey requires a commitment to quality improvement (QI) from the highest levels of leadership combined with the interdependent development of several key components of health care delivery: Administration and Governance, Clinical Leadership, Program Development, Data Analytics, and Reputation. This assessment will help you identify where you are in your Quality Journey and will indicate areas for improvement.

Administration and Governance

    • Is there an understanding of QI, its importance, and the necessary processes and skills required to achieve it?
    • Is there a real commitment from your executives to health care QI?
    • Is there effective communication about the vision for the future and the challenges to address?
    • Do performance measurements and the organization's reward system encourage the right behaviors as they relate to QI
 

Physician and Nurse Leadership

    • Are your organization's clinical leaders actively engaged in QI initiatives?
    • Do physicians and nurses frequently collaborate to improve patient care?
    • Do your clinical leaders frequently engage their professional communities to share and refine best practices?
 

Quality Improvement Programs and Expertise

    • Does your organization have a robust quality and patient safety program?
    • Is formalized QI training made available to leaders and staff?
    • Do QI initiatives drive the development and implementation of clinical and operational best practices?
 

Data and Analytics

    • Does your organization have dedicated resources and personnel for data collection and analytics?
    • Is data used effectively to drive clinical and operational improvement?
